Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team got a big game from Jaylan Dunn on trhe way to a 64-37 win over Monmouth College in Flood Arena Saturday afternoon, their second win in the last three games.
Dunn finished with a career-high 21 points and tied her career-bests with eight rebounds and three assists. Shelby Kline scored 17 points and made three steals while Melissa McLean added 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Buccaneers took charge of the contest early, building a 13-4 lead after one quarter. The Fighting Scots got back within six twice in the second period, the last time with 2:30 left before halftime. But Beloit closed the half on an 8-3 run to take a 31-20 advantage into the lockerroom. Dunn had 15 points at the break while the Bucs were shooting 52% (13-25) and holding MC to 36.4% (8-22).
Beloit kept up the pressure throughout the second half, holding Monmouth to single digits in both the third and fourth quarter. After the Scots cut the deficit to 38-29 with 3:44 left in the third the Buccaneers outscored them 11-0 to finish the quarter for a 49-29 advantage. MC never got the deficit under 20 in the final quarter.
The Bucs finished at an even 50% (26-52) shooting for the game while holding Monmouth to 30.2% (13-43), including 16.7% in the fourth period.
Beloit looks to keep their momentum going into the next game when they host Lake Forest College on Tuesday night in Flood. Action begins at 5:30 p.m.
