Buccaneers Start Well But Shooting Cools Off

Ripon, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team built a lead in the opening quarter but their shooting fell off in the last three periods on the way to a 66-44 loss at Ripon College Wednesday night.

The Buccaneers started well, building a 13-7 lead with 3:39 left in the first quarter, before the Red Hawks closed the quarter on a 7-2 run, which ended with Beloit ahead 15-4.  The Ripon run continued into the second quarter with eight straight points that gave them a 22-15 lead at the 7:19 mark.  The Bucs got back to within 24-21 before RC went on an 8-0 run for a 32-21 lead.  The Red Hawks led 34-25 at the break.

A 9-2 Ripon run out of the lockerroom gave RC a 43-27 advantage midway through the third period.  Beloit could get no closer than the 13-point, 49-36 score at the end of the third.  Ripon's largest lead in the fourth quarter was 22.

The Bucs finished at 35.8% shooting for the game (19-53) while Ripon finished at 48.3% (29-60), including 69.2% in the second quarter and 53.3% in the fourth.

Nora Polaski led Beloit with 14 points while Melissa McLean scored 13.  Jaylan Dunn and Tegan Rock both grabbed seven rebounds while Polaski, Kelsey Horvath and Julia Moll all had three assists.

The Buccaneers return to Flood Arena on Saturday when they host Monmouth College in a 1:00 p.m. Midwest Conference game.
