Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team finally got the payoff for their hard work, snapping a long slide behind a strong second half on the way to a 73-39 Midwest Conference win over Lawrence University in Flood Arena Saturday afternoon.
The Buccaneers scored the last four points of a close first quarter for an 11-7 lead. They built on that lead with a 60% shooting second quarter, including three three-pointers, to head to the lockerroom with a 28-15 advantage.
Beloit came out of halftime on a 10-1 run to move up 38-16 three minutes into the third period. The Vikings made a comeback that cut the lead to 43-30 with 2:15 remaining but the Bucs closed the quarter with five of the last six points to lead 48-31 heading to the fourth. The final quarter was pretty-much all Buccaneers, outscoring LU 25-8 while shooting 56.3% and making three more three's.
The 10 three-pointers for the game tied for the second-most made in a game, leading the Bucs to their second-highest point total in a game this season. Beloit finished at 45.9% from the field for the contest (28-61) while holding Lawrence to 25.5% (12-47).
Shelby Kline made five three-pointers and finished with 19 points while Melissa McLean had 13 points and Nora Polaski 12. McLean, Polaski and Jaylan Dunn all grabbed seven rebounds while Polaski and Lauren Glaser dished out four assists each.
Beloit looks to continue the positive momentum on Wednesday when they travel to Ripon College for a 5:30 p.m. MWC game.
