Late 2nd Quarter Run Sends Buccaneers to Home-Opening Defeat

November 19, 2016

Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team couldn't overcome a late second quarter run by Concordia University Wisconsin on the way to a 69-44 loss in the home opener in Flood Arena Saturday.

The game began close until CUW grabbed the lead midway through the opening quarter.  After Beloit pulled back within three with 3:23 left the Falcons closed the quarter on an 8-0 run to lead 19-8 after one.

The deficit got to 14 just under three minutes into the second quarter but the Bucs put together some good possessions on both ends to pull back within eight with 3:00 left.  Concordia then went on what-proved-to-be the deciding run of the game, outscoring the Buccaneers 9-1 into the lockerroom to head to halftime up 35-19.

That lead held through the first half of the third quarter until CUW pushed it to 20 with 1:47 left in the quarter.  They led 52-33 heading to the fourth.

The Falcons closed the game with a sizzling fourth quarter, shooting 54.5% from the field in the fourth to continue to expand the lead, which reached as high as 29, before settling for the 25-point win.

Beloit shot 36.4% (16-44) for the game and made just 2-9 three-pointers while Concordia, buoyed by hot-shooting in the first and fourth quarters, shot 51.9% (27-52).

Nora Polaski scored 11 to lead the Bucs while Laura Panicali had eight and Jaylan Dunn seven.  Tegan Rock dished out four assists.

The Buccaneers have a short window to regroup before they open Midwest Conference play at Lake Forest College on Tuesday.  Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
