With Shooting Off, Buccaneers Can't Come Back in Loss at Lake Forest

January 20, 2016

Lake Forest, IL -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team couldn't find their shooting stroke on the way to a 66-54 loss at Lake Forest College Wednesday night.

Beloit finished the game at 25% (14-56), which included 16% (4-25) in the opening half.  Free throws kept them within striking distance as they finished 22-29.

The teams played a close opening quarter, which ended with the Foresters holding a 12-9 advantage.  A 14-6 Lake Forest run in the first six-plus minutes of the second period gave LFC a 28-15 lead and a 32-21 advantage at the half.

The Buccaneers had their best stretch of the night coming out of the lockerroom, out-scoring Lake Forest 13-4 to pull within 36-34 midway through the third quarter.  But the Foresters regained control with a quarter-closing 13-6 run that gave them a 49-40 lead heading to the final quarter.  LFC kept their lead in double figures throughout most of the fourth period, with Beloit getting no closer than 58-51 with 2:47 remaining.

Laura Panicali had 17 points to lead the Bucs.  Despite a tough shooting night, Lana Wieseman finished with 15 points to become the first Beloit Women's player to eclipse 1,500 career points.  Wieseman, Shelby Kline, Megan McCabe and Nora Polaski each had six rebounds.

The Buccaneers look to snap a six-game slide Saturday afternoon when they host Grinnell College in Flood Arena.  Tip off is at 3:00 p.m.
