Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Basketball team kept battling but couldn't overcome a cold shooting second half, falling to Cornell College 70-58 in Flood Arena Wednesday night.
The Rams controlled the opening quarter and led 18-5 with 1:45 left before Beloit put together a 14-3 run, fueled by Laura Panicali's eight points, to pull back within 21-19 midway thru the second period. The Bucs were still within 23-21 with 4:12 left in the half but Cornell closed on an 11-5 run to lead 34-26 at the break.
An 8-3 run out of the lockerroom gave Cornell a 42-29 advantage with six minutes left in the third period and a 50-43 lead after three, the closest the Buccaneers would get the rest of the way. The lead hit its biggest at 63-47 with 4:50 remaining.
The Buccaneers shot just 28.6% (8-28) in the second half and finished at 32.1% (18-56). Cornell shot 43.1% (28-65) for the game.
Panicali finished with 19 points while Lana Wieseman had 17 points and nine rebounds. Shelby Kline scorfed nine points while Nora Polaski also grabbed nine rebounds.
Beloit looks to end their pre-Holidays schedule on a high note when they host Monmouth College Saturday. Action begins at 5:00 p.m.
