Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team got back to their winning ways with an offensive explosion, topping Lawrence University 93-73 in Flood Arena Wednesday night.
The Vikings led by as much as five during the opening period before the Buccaneers grabbed the lead for good with 1:29 left on Alyssa Capecci's three-pointer. Beloit led 24-21 after one. An 18-7 second quarter run gave the Bucs its biggest lead at 44-32 3:08 before halftime and they headed to the break up 48-38.
Beloit kept their lead in double digits for the entire second half, though Lawrence was within 10 one minute into the fourth period. But a 19-3 Buccaneer run pushed the advantage to 87-61 with 4:32 remaining, allowing head coach Jennifer McCormick to get everyone some playing time.
Beloit shot 52.2% (36-69) for the game, including 57.6% (19-33) during the first half, while holding LU to 42.9% (24-56) for the game. The Bucs had 26 assists on its 36 made baskets.
Lana Wieseman had 35 points and 12 rebounds, also dishing out four assists. The 35 points moved her into second on the Buccaneer Women's all-time scoring list with 1,304 points. The total was the second-most points scored in a game for the Bucs.
Nora Polaski tied her career-high with 22 points, hitting all 10 of her shots from the field plus two free throws in as many attempts. Shelby Kline added 12 points and Kelsey Horvath tied a career-high with six assists.
The Buccaneers have some time before traveling to Ripon College on Tuesday. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
