Mequon, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team couldn't rebound from a big run by Concordia University spanning the third and fourth quarters on the way to a 75-52 loss Wednesday night.
The Falcons scored 10 of the game's first 12 points but a three-pointer by Laura Panicali with under 10 seconds left made it a 12-5 game after one quarter.
CUW outscored the Bucs 15-9 in the first six-plus minutes of the second quarter to increase their lead to 27-14 and held on to the advantage into the half to lead 34-25 at the break.
Beloit came out of halftime on a 7-2 run to pull back within four at 36-32 with just under seven minutes left in the third quarter but Concordia responded with a quarter-closing, and game-changing, 16-4 run to lead 52-36 thru three.
The run continued for the Falcons into the early fourth quarter, ending with nine minutes remaining in the game as a 22-4 explosion to make it a 58-36 game. The Buccaneers never got closer than 15 the rest of the way.
Lana Wieseman had 21 points to lead Beloit while Panicali added 14. Nora Polaski had a team-high seven rebounds and Kelsey Horvath added four assists. The Bucs shot 42.6% from the field for the game but hit just 46.2% (6-13) of their free throws. CUW finished at 50.8% from the field for the game.
The Bucs open the home portion of their season on Saturday afternoon when they host Rockford University in Flood Arena. Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m.
