Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team pushed Midwest Conference-leader St. Norbert College as hard as they could but eventually ran out of gas in an 83-62 loss in Flood Arena on Saturday afternoon.
SNC scored the first 10 points of the game and looked ready to end things early but the Bucs rallied back to within four points five minutes in. St. Norbert led 30-15 at the 8:34 mark before Beloit put together a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to make it a 32-27 game. Again the Green Knights pushed their lead back up to double-digits, leading 39-27 at the 3:00 mark. And the Buccaneers fought back again with their second 12-2 run of the half to make it a 41-39 game, SNC, at the half.
Laura Panicali's four three-pointers in the opening half was a big reason for the close game at the break, as was 61% shooting (14-23) and a 16-10 advantage in rebounding.
St. Norbert came out of the lockerroom hot and turned that two-point halftime advantage into a 64-46 lead midway through the half. Beloit never got closer than 13 the rest of the way.
The Buccaneers shot just 26.9% (7-26) in the second 20 minutes while SNC was at 55.2% (16-29) and finished at 55% for the game.
Lana Wieseman had another double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the way. Panicalli had 16 points and Nora Polaski 10.
The Buccaneers look to snap their long drought on Tuesday night when they host Lawrence University in the second game of a three-game homestand. Action begins at 5:30 p.m.
