IC Thwarts Bucs with Second-Half Runs

Jacksonville, IL -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team never gave up trying to erase double-figure deficits but two runs in the second half kept Illinois College comfortably in front in a 76-49 loss on Wednesday night.

The Buccaneers were ahead 11-10 eight minutes into the game before a 21-6 run by the Lady Blues put them up for good 31-17 at the 5:35 mark.  IC led 34-21 at the break.

In the second half the Bucs pulled back to within 42-30 with 13:16 left but an 11-2 run by Illinois College made it 53-32 just under four minutes later.  After pulling back to within 15 a minute later IC pulled off an almost identical 11-2, four-minute run to seal the win.  The largest lead was the final score.

Seven three-pointers aided Illinois College as opposed to Beloit's one by Megan McCabe.  The Bucs shot 31% (22-71) from the field and were out-rebounded 52-38 while the Lady Blues hit on 44.8% (30-67) of their shots.

Lana Wieseman scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds, the lone Buccaneer in double figures.  Julia Moll and Jaylan Dunn both hit career highs with nine and eight points, respectively.

The Buccaneers begin a three-game homestand Saturday when they host Midwest Conference leader St. Norbert College.  Action begins at 2:00 p.m.
