Grinnell, IA -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team came out on the wrong end of a game of runs in a 61-55 loss at Grinnell College on Saturday.
The teams exchanged the lead several times during the first seven-plus minutes until the Pioneers broke away from a 12-all tie at the 12:34 mark with a 14-5 run for a 26-17 lead with 7:34 left. The Bucs responded with a half-closing 16-6 run that gave them a 33-32 advantage at the break.
Grinnell came out of the lockerroom hot and put together a 21-7 run that put them in front 53-40 midway through the second half. GC still led by 15 with 6:18 remaining before Beloit used a 13-2 run that pulled them within 59-55 with just over a minute left. But the Pioneers held on with the only two points of the final minute for the win.
After a 45.2% first half the Bucs fell to 23.5% (8-34) shooting in the second half. They did hit four three-pointers, their most in a game since December 9, and also won the rebounding battle 47-43. Grinnell finished at 39.4% shooting for the game.
Lana Wieseman continued her hot run with her fourth 20-plus points, 10-plus rebounds game in the last six, scoring 25 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Laura Panicali and Megan McCabe both had 11 points, with Panicali grabbing seven rebounds.
Beloit looks to get back on the plus side Tuesday night when they host Carroll University in Flood Arena. Tip off is at 5:30 p.m.
