Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team was dead even in the opening 20 minutes with visiting Illinois College on Saturday. But foul trouble and cold shooting in the second half led to a 69-50 loss in Flood Arena.
The first half was close for nearly the entire 20 minutes, with seven ties and five lead changes. IC led by five early before the Bucs spurted late to build a seven-point lead. The teams went to the lockerroom tied at 31-all after Mykenzie Larsen hit a layin as time expired.
In the second half the Lady Blues went on an 8-0 run out of the lockerroom for a 41-31 lead five minutes in. The Buccaneers battled back to within 44-41 midway through the half but Illinois College went on a deciding 9-0 run to open a 12-point advantage with just over seven minutes left and eased in for the win. Beloit never got closer than nine after the 3:56 mark.
The Bucs shot just 26.7% (8-30) in the second half and finished at 32.8% (21-64) for the game. Foul trouble was especially an issue in the second half as IC was 10-16 from the line while Beloit was just 3-4. One Buccaneer fouled out with two others finishing with four fouls.
Lana Wieseman had 15 points as the lone Buccaneer in double figures. Larsen and Alyssa Capecci each had eight points while Nora Polaski scored seven. Wieseman and Jaylan Dunn pulled down seven rebounds each and Capecci finished with five steals.
After a three-game week, Beloit has a little time to prepare for their next outing when they host Lake Forest College on Wednesday night in Flood. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
