Turnovers, Monmouth Runs Lead to Buccaneers' Loss

Monmouth, IL -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team was the victim of Monmouth College runs in each half on the way to an 83-63 Midwest Conference loss on Thursday night.

The first half run began at the 11:15 mark, with the Bucs leading 23-19.  Eight minutes later, after a 19-2 MC run, Beloit trailed 38-25.  The Buccaneers put together a 6-0 spurt in the last 3:18 of the half to pull within 38-31 at the break.

The second half run started less than two minutes in with Beloit having pulled to within 38-34 on a jumper by Julia Moll and a free throw by Lana Wieseman.  By the 11:46 mark Monmouth led 63-44 after a 25-10 run.  The Buccaneers got back within 73-59 with five minutes remaining after MC had built their advantage up to 21 but the Scots closed out the rest of the game for the win.

The Bucs committed 34 turnovers in the game, leading to 27 Monmouth points.  Beloit shot 36.1% (22-61) from the field and were 3-15 from three-point, with Wieseman hitting two of the three.  MC shot 43.3% (29-67) for the game, including 50% in the second half.

Wieseman finished with a double-double of 24 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.  Laura Panicali had 14 points while Alyssa Capecci had eight.  Kelsey Horvath had seven rebounds and dished out a career-high tying five assists.

The busy week comes to close on the home court Saturday when Beloit hosts Illinois College.  Action begins at 3:00 p.m.
