De Pere, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team couldn't overcome a double-digit deficit in the second half and fell at Midwest Conference-leading St. Norbert College 72-52 on Tuesday night.
SNC raced out to a 17-5 lead just over seven minutes into the game but the Bucs used a 17-8 run over the next seven-plus minutes to pull back within three at 25-22 with five minutes left in the opening half. The Green Knights answered that run by closing the half with a 12-5 spurt to lead 37-27 at the break.
After Beloit scored an early basketball to get the deficit below 10 in the second half St. Norbert moved their lead up into the teens and held on to it for the entire half. The largest lead hit 19 at 58-39 midway through but the Buccaneers went on a 9-3 run to cut it back to 13 before SNC closed it out.
Beloit shot just 32.1% (18-56) for the game, 29.6% in the second half while trying to get closer. St. Norbert finished at 44.1% for the game. 25 turnovers also hurt the Bucs.
Nora Polaski and Megan McCabe both scored 11 points to lead the Buccaneers while Lana Wieseman added 10 points. Laura Panicali had eight points with a team-best eight rebounds.
Beloit has little time to regroup, playing their second of three games this week on Thursday night at Monmouth College. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
