Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Women's Basketball team dominated the second half on the way to a 100-81 win over Knox College on Saturday afternoon in Flood Arena.
Beloit jumped out to an eight-point lead four minutes into the game but Knox came firing back with an 18-6 run to grab a 24-20 advantage at the 11:13 mark. The rest of the half was close, with two ties and each squad holding the lead. Melissa McLean made a putback at the buzzer to make it 46-45, KC, at the break.
After the sixth tie of the game at 50-50 three-plus minutes into the second half the Buccaneers took charge with a 19-8 run over the next six-plus minutes to take a 69-58 lead. The Prairie Fire got back as close as seven several minutes later but the Bucs answered with a 22-6 run over the next five minutes for their biggest lead of the game at 95-72 with just over two minutes remaining. Lana Wieseman got Beloit to the century mark as the clock wound down.
The Buccaneers shot 45.5% for the game (35-77) while also making 30-42 free throws and winning the rebound battle 62-54. Knox shot 33.3% for the game, including 26.1% in the second half. They were also 3-32 from three-point, 0-15 in the opening half. The teams combined for 62 fouls and shot 74 free throws.
Wieseman finished with a game-high 22 points and also grabbed 12 rebounds. Laura Panicali had 18 points while Nora Polaski had 14 points, as did Megan McCabe with a career-high. Polaski and McCabe both grabbed eight rebounds. Julia Moll had a career-best 12 points and added four assists, also a career-high. McLean had a career-best nine rebounds to go with five points and three assists.
Beloit looks to keep the momentum going with three games next week, beginning at MWC-leading St. Norbert College on Tuesday night. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
