Kalamazoo, Mich. -- The Bucs traveled to Kalamazoo College to take part in the Kalamazoo Hornet Invitational Volleyball Tournament this weekend.
Beloit faced Hiram College, Albion College, and the hosts, Kalamazoo College. The Bucs had a tough schedule in Michigan, dropping all three contests.
Junior Libero Abby Gessell made the All-Tournament team for the weekend.
Beloit lost to Hiram in three straight (25-12)(25-14)(25-16).
Gessell led the Bucs against the Terriers in Game 1, with 16 digs in 3 sets played. Right behind her was junior Shelby Strehlow with 11.
Seniors Jaylan Dunn and Taylor Lewis led on the offensive side of the ball, with 4 and 3 kills, respectively. Senior Amanda Baran finished with 19 Attack Attempts as well.
Beloit lost to Albion in 5 sets (25-19)(25-23)(22-25)(18-25)(4-15).
In game two against the Britons, the Bucs looked more focused and composed, winning the first two sets outright. However, Albion came back, winning the last two, and the deciding 5th set quickly, finishing 2-3 Albion.
The Bucs made a gigantic jump in kills from the first game of the tournament to the second, totaling 33 against the Britons, as opposed to 9 against the Terriers.
Beloit almost hit 100 digs, finishing with 96. Libero Abby Gessell proved she was worthy of the All-Tournament team ranking, finishing with 27 digs. Right behind her was Amanda Baran with 19, Shelby Strehlow with 15, and Paige Wimbrow with 12.
Beloit dropped to the host team Kalamazoo in 4 sets (12-25)(25-22)(18-25)(14-25).
Strehlow and Gessell led the Bucs in game 3 in digs, with 15 and 13, respectively. Offensively, Dunn led the Bucs with 10 kills.
Dunn also registered an impressive 32 attack attempts, with freshman Eva Laun-Smith right behind her with 27.
Beloit has the week off, until they return home for the first time since the season opening Buc Blast Tournament, hosting two on Saturday, Sept. 23rd. The Bucs play Mount Mary University at 10 AM, then have another rematch with Alverno College at Noon.
