Jacksonville, IL -- The Beloit College Volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-1 matches over the weekend - at Knox College Friday night and at Illinois College Saturday afternoon - as they finished up their final Midwest Conference road weekend of the season.
Beloit fell 21-25, 25-27, 25-20, 20-25 at Knox and 22-25, 9-25, 25-23, 25-13 at Illinois College.
Friday night, KC out-scored the Bucs 9-5 down the stretch for the opening set win and closed with a 5-3 run in the second set. The Buccaneers scored nine of the first 13 points and then held off the Prairie Fire for the third-set win before Knox closed out the match by grabbing the lead early and not letting Beloit closer than two the rest of the way.
Amanda Baran tied for the fourth-most kills in a match since 2008 with 19 while Paige Wimbrow had 20 assists and Shelby Strehlow 12. Wimbrow and Jaylan Dunn both had two aces. Abby Gessell made 24 digs and Baran 22 to pace the defense and Dunn had three solo blocks.
On Saturday IC scored five of the last seven points to win set one and then scored 10 of the first 13 points to take control in set two. The Buccaneers built a 22-17 lead late in set three before holding on for the win. The Lady Blues then scored 10 of the first 14 points in set four to secure the match.
Baran had 13 kills and Dunn 11 to lead the attack. Wimbrow added 27 assists while Baran also had two aces and 20 digs. Gessell made 16 digs and both Taylor Lewis and Dunn three block assists.
The Buccaneers travel to Lake Forest College on Tuesday night for a 7:00 p.m. MWC match.
