Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Volleyball team battled through a hot and cold match against Marian University in Flood Arena Tuesday night, coming up with enough big plays in the fifth and deciding set for a 3-2 non-conference win.
The Buccaneers came back from a 10-5 deficit in the final set, scoring 10 of the final 13 points for the 15-13 victory and the match win. The final scoring was 25-18, 25-13, 21-25, 16-25, 15-13. The Bucs took charge with a 9-2 run in the opening set to jump on top in the match. They then scored 15 of the first 19 points in set two to take control early. The Sabres turned a 15-11 deficit around with a 10-2 run in set three on the way to the win and then used a 12-0 run in set four to force the deciding fifth set.
Amanda Baran had 18 kills while Jaylan Dunn had 13 and Taylor Lewis nine to lead the Bucs' attack. Paige Wimbrow finished with 23 assists while Shelby Strehlow had 17. Wimbrow also served two aces. Abby Gessell had 38 digs and Baran 23 while Molly Muller had seven block assists, Baran five and Dunn four on the defensive side.
Beloit now looks to a big Midwest Conference weekend, hosting Grinnell College at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Cornell College at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Friday's match is the Play for the Cure game while Saturday members of the 2006 MWC Championship team will hold a 10-year reunion during the match.
