Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Volleyball team enjoyed their season-opening Buc Blast Tournament in Flood Arena over the weekend, recording a 3-1 mark to finish in a three-way tie for the best record in the five-team event.
The three wins are the most for Beloit in the Buc Blast since the Tourney began in 2012 and their best four-match start to a season since 2007.
Beloit opened the Tourney on Friday with a split, defeating Blackburn College 3-1 in the opener before falling to Wisconsin Lutheran College 3-0.
Jaylan Dunn had 12 kills and three solo blocks against Blackburn, while both Malerie Mech, who earned a spot on the All-Tourney Team, and Taylor Lewis had six kills. Paige Wimbrow, also selected for All-Tournament, had 23 set assists. Against WLC, Amanda Baran had six kills to lead the attack and Abby Gessell 15 digs.
Saturday the Buccaneers came back from down 2-1 to defeat Illinois Institute of Technology 3-2 with a 16-14 win in the fifth game and then dispatched North Central University of Minnesota 3-0 to complete their run.
Mech had 12 kills and Baran and Dunn 11 each against IIT. Wimbrow finished with 29 set assists and Gessell 32 digs. The team had nine solo blocks in the match. Baran finished with 11 kills and Mech eight versus North Central.
Beloit has a short time to enjoy their weekend before getting back on the court Tuesday night against Alverno College. Action in Flood Arena begins at 7:00 p.m.
