Jacksonville, IL -- The Beloit College Volleyball team dropped a tight match at Illinois College on Friday night, falling 3-1.
The Lady Blues won 25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19.
Illinois College jumped out early in the first set but the Buccaneers scored six straight points late to pull within 24-19 before IC closed it out. In set two Beloit broke away from a 16-16 tie with an 8-1 run only to see the Lady Blues close the gap before a Taylor Lewis kill secured the win.
Close to the end, IC grabbed a 22-20 lead after an 18-all tie in the third set and then held on at the end. In the deciding set Illinois College scored five of the final six points to seal the match.
Shelby Strehlow had 10 kills to lead the attack while Bethany Stavrakas and Jaylan Dun had eight each. Cheyenne Moffatt had 16 assists and Breea Rogalla 14. Stavrakas and Abby Gessell each had two aces. Stavrakas led the defense with 20 digs and Dunn finished with eight blocks.
The Bucs are off until next Friday when they host Cornell College in a 7:30 p.m. match at Flood Arena.
