Galesburg, IL -- The Beloit College Volleyball team opened Midwest Conference play on the road this past weekend, falling 3-0 at Knox College on Saturday afternoon after dropping a 3-0 decision at Monmouth College Friday night.
On Saturday at Knox, the Prairie Fire took the close match 25-20, 25-19, 25-22. In a 16-all tie in set one, KC closed with a 9-4 run for the win. In the second set, it was 17-17 before Knox closed 8-2. In the final set, the Prairie Fire scored three of the final four points to secure the win.
Taylor Lewis had 11 kills and a .409 hitting percentage to lead the way. Cheyenne Moffatt had 13 assists while Breea Rogalla had two service aces. Josie Lindsey-Robbins made 12 digs to pace the defense.
Back on Friday, the Fighting Scots took the match 25-12, 25-22, 25-21. In the opening set a 14-2 run early on by Monmouth set the tone in the win. The second set was much tighter, with the Bucs leading 20-18 before MC went on a 7-2 closing run for the win. The third set was also close throughout before the Scots scored three of the final four points to get the match win.
Bethany Stavrakas, Shelby Strehlow and Jaylan Dunn each had five kills to lead the attack while Rogalla had 10 assists and Moffatt nine. Lindsey-Robbins had two aces and also led the defense with 15 digs. Stavrakas added 10 digs.
The Buccaneers play at Marian University in Fond du Lac on Tuesday night before hosting St. Norbert College on Friday night in Flood Arena and Lawrence University Saturday. Friday's match begins at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday's at 1:00 p.m.
