Milwaukee, WI -- The Beloit College Volleyball team had a busy weekend, their last one before heading into Midwest Conference play next weekend.
Saturday the Bucs fell to Alverno College 3-2 and defeated host Mt. Mary University 3-0 in a triangular. Friday night they fell 3-0 to the University of Dubuque and 3-0 to the University of St. Thomas, two highly-regarded squads.
On Saturday, Taylor Lewis had 12 kills and Bethany Stavrakas seven in the win over Mt. Mary. Cheyenne Moffatt had 21 set assists while Jaylan Dunn had three aces. Shelby Strehlow made 13 digs and Stavrakas nine.
In the first match Saturday, The Flames took the rubber match between the two teams, the second of the three to go five sets. Lewis had 17 kills and Dunn 12 to lead the attack. Moffatt had 22 assists and Breea Rogalla 15. Abby Gessell made 23 digs to lead four players in double figures in that category.
Back on Friday in Rock Island, Illinois, at the Augustana College Viking Classic, Stavrakas had seven kills to lead the Buccaneers against Dubuque. Moffatt had 11 assists and Rogalla two aces. Strehlow made 23 digs, Stavrakas 16 and Gessell 15.
In the second match of the night against St. Thomas, who is receiving votes in the latest AVCA National poll, Lewis and Dunn both finished with seven kills while Stavrakas had five. Moffatt had 14 assists and Rogalla 10. Stavrakas finished with 11 digs.
The Bucs now turn their attention to MWC play, traveling to Monmouth College on Friday and Knox College Saturday afternoon.
