Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Volleyball team finished their first home weekend of the season with a 2-2 mark at the Buc Blast Volleyball Tournament, held in Flood Arena Friday and Saturday.
Beloit defeated Alverno College 3-0 in their opening match Friday before falling to Illinois Institute of Technology 3-2. Saturday they dropped a 3-1 decision to Rockford University and then closed the Tourney with a 3-2 win over UW-Marathon County.
The Bucs avenged a season-opening loss at Alverno in their opening match last Tuesday as Taylor Lewis and Bethany Stavrakas had six kills apiece and Jaylan Dunn and Abby Gessell five each. Breea Rogalla had 14 set assists and Cheyenne Moffatt 12 with Rogalla, Moffett, Stavrakas and Shelby Strehlow all serving two aces. Gessell led the squad with 10 digs.
Against IIT, who went 4-0 on the weekend, the Buccaneers won the first two sets before Tech rallied to win three straight and take the match. Stavrakas had 12 kills to lead the attack while both Rogalla and Moffatt had 23 set assists each. Strehlow led four players with double-digit digs with 24.
Saturday morning Rockford won the last two sets for the match. Strehlow had 15 kills and Stavrakas 12 with Moffatt recording 37 assists and three aces. Strehlow had 16 digs, Gessell 14 and Josie Lindsey-Robbins 10.
In the finale Beloit rallied after UWMC won the second and third sets, taking the final two for the match victory. Stavrakas had 13 kills. Rogalla and Moffatt each had 17 assists with Strehlow recording three aces and a team-high 11 digs.
Dunn was named to the seven-person All-Tournament team.
The Bucs head back to the road on Tuesday night, playing at Milwaukee School of Engineering, before competing in the Illinois Wesleyan Classic on Saturday.
