Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Volleyball team finished up the Flood Arena portion of their 2014 season on Friday and Saturday with a pair of Midwest Conference matches while celebrating the accomplishments of their four seniors.
The Buccaneers fell to Lawrence University 25-19, 25-9, 25-22 on Friday night and St. Norbert College 25-9, 25-15, 25-13 on Saturday afternoon.
Friday night's match was preceded by a recognition for seniors Julianne Gruenhagen, Molly Schulting, Brook Kahl and Jessica Tedrow.
Against Lawrence the first set was close until LU closed with a 6-2 run; the Vikings opened set two with a 6-1 start and never looked back; Beloit led 12-7 in the third set before a 13-2 run by Lawrence turned things around into a 20-14 advantage. The Bucs battled back to within 23-22 but the Vikings closed it out with the final two points.
Bethany Stavrakas' eight kills led the attack while Schulting had six. Cheyenne Moffatt had 16 assists and Gruenhagen 11 digs. Jaylan Dunn added four blocks.
On Saturday the Green Knights stormed away from a 5-5 tie to close the match on a 20-4 run; in set two it was SNC closed with a 13-3 run after the score was 15-all midway through; St. Norbert jumped out to a 10-4 lead early and fought off several Beloit attempts to cut the deficit to close out the match.
Schulting had nine kills to pace the attack while Moffatt had 14 assists. Gruenhagen finished with 17 digs.
Gruenhagen's 28 digs on the weekend moved her into a tie for fourth all-time with Esther Chiu (2007-09) in digs in Buccaneer history with 1,454.
The Buccaneers close out the 2014 season on the road, playing at Ripon College next Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
