Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Volleyball team swept past North Central University of Minnesota in their final match of a busy home weekend to finish 1-2 in three matches at Flood Arena.
The Bucs fell to Cornell College 3-0 on Friday night and Grinnell College 3-1 on Saturday morning.
Against North Central the Bucs pulled away from an 8-8 tie in the opening set with a 12-4 run on the way to the 25-17 win. In set two the run was 13-3 from 6-6 to 19-10, ending in a 25-11 victory. In the clincher NCU got within 14-9 before Beloit closed it out 11-4 in the 25-13 win.
Molly Schulting had 11 kills and Bethany Stavrakas nine in the match. Cheyenne Moffatt put up 30 set assists while Julianne Gruenhagen had 13 digs and three aces.
Earlier Saturday the Buccaneers fell to Grinnell 22-25, 26-24, 25-17, 25-18. The first set was close throughout before Beloit built a five-point lead late and held on for the win. In the second set the Pioneers got back-to-back kills out of a 24-all tie to even the match at one apiece. In set three GC turned a 7-7 tie into a 19-13 advantage with a 12-6 run. In the final set the Pioneers erased an early deficit with a 7-2 run midway through on the way to the match victory.
Schulting finished with 13 kills and six blocks and Stavrakas 12 with 13 digs while Moffatt had 28 set assists. Gruenhagen finished with 25 digs.
Back on Friday night Cornell, receiving votes in the most recent AVCA poll, took the match 25-10, 25-8, 25-14. Schulting led the attack with six kills while Gruenhagen made 12 digs to lead the Bucs.
Beloit closes out its home season in the next week with three matches. They host Mount Mary University at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night, Lawrence University for Senior Night on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and St. Norbert College in the home finale on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
