The Buccaneer Men’s and Women’s indoor track teams are continuing to hit personal best weekly as they work
their way towards the indoor conference meet later this month. This Saturday they competed at The University
of Chicago Windy City Invitational.
On the Women’s side the Bucs were led by Eva Laun-Smith who won the triple jump and set a new school record
with a jump of 38’0.29. In the 60 meter hurdles she broke her own record set last week with a time of 9.11
which was good for a second place finish and also took 2nd in the long jump. In the triple jump the Buccaneers
were first (Laun-Smith), second (Lena Ramsey) and fourth (Aleeshah Heinzen).
The men were led by juniors Dan Arkes and Jose Gutierrez. Arkes finished second in the 3000 meter run with
a time of 8:55.97 and Gutierrez was second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.49 which tied the school
record he set last season. Junior Ethan Harycki picked up a seventh place in the weight throw with a throw of
12.85m. Freshman Fernando Castillo placed 8th in the 200 meters with a time of 23.60.
