Laun-Smith, Arkes and Heinzen Recognized by Midwest Conference

Eva Laun-Smith picks up here second Midwest Conference Performer of the week award after leading the way for the Bucs at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Classic on Saturday, picking up two individual third-place finishes and setting two new school records along the way. Laun-Smith broke her own records in the 60-meter hurdles and the triple jump, both of which she set two weeks ago. In the triple jump, she went 37’ 1 ¾” (breaking the old record of 36’11.75). That mark leads the MWC and ranks 15
th in the nation.  In the 60-meter hurdles, she broke her record (9.59) in prelims with a time of 9.34 and set another new school record in the finals with a time of 9.27. Her time is currently the top time in the MWC and ranks 39th in Division III.

Both Dan Arkes and Aleeshah Heinzen were recognized as notable performers for their efforts on the track and field this week in the Midwest Conference.  Junior Dan Arkes was recognized for placing second in the 5,000-meter run and setting an all-time indoor personal best in a time of 15:40.65 at UW-Whitewater on Friday.  Aleeshah Heinzen was recognized for efforts in the field events at the UW-Whitewater Classic.  Heinzen finished 12th in the long jump with a leap of 15' 11” and had a new personal best in the triple jump (35' 11 ¼”) which was good for seventh-place at the UW-Whitewater Warhawk Classic on Saturday.

The Bucs are back on the track at the University of Chicago on Saturday at 11am.
