The Beloit College Buccaneer women’s track team competed at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Classic Invitational and Multi on Saturday.
Freshman Eva Laun-Smith (Beloit, WI/Memorial) led the way for the Bucs picking up two individual third place finishes and setting two new school records along the way. Laun-Smith broke her own records in the 60 hurdles and the triple jump, both of which she set two weeks ago. In the triple jump she went 37’01.75 (breaking the old record of 36’11.75). In the 60 meter hurdles she broke her record (9.59) in prelims with a time of 9.34 and set another new school record in the finals with a time of 9.27.
The women’s 4x200 meter relay comprised of Aleeshah Heinzen (Beaver Dam, WI) , Toni Bonds (Milwaukee, WI/Wauwatosa East) , Lena Ramsey (Chicago, IL/Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep Academy), and Laun-Smith took 2nd in a time of 1:50.92 which is their fastest time this year and less than a second off the school record.
The Buccaneers resume action next Saturday, Feb. 3, at the University of Chicago. Competition begins at 11:00am.
