Whitewater, WI – Eva Laun-Smith, a freshman from Beloit, Wisconsin, competing for the Beloit College Track & Field team at the UW-Whitewater Karl Schlender Invitational on Saturday, had a double-record-setting day.
In her first collegiate meet for the Buccaneers, Laun-Smith broke both the Indoor Triple Jump and 60 Meter Hurdle records, placing third in the Triple Jump and third in the 60 meter Hurdles. She broke the Triple Jump mark on her first effort, with a jump of 36’11.75, breaking junior Aleeshah Heinzen’s record of 35’8 that was set in 2017, Heinzen finished fourth with a jump of 35-02.00 and was followed by fellow Buccaneer Lena Ramsey who finished fifth with a jump of 34-05.00. In the 60 meter hurdles Laun-Smith went 9.68 in prelims and set a new school record of 9.59 in the finals finishing third.
Laun-Smith is the top-ranked Triple Jumper and third-ranked 60 Meter Hurdler in the Midwest Conference. She is currently ranked ninth in the triple jump in NCAA Div III.
The Bucs are back on the road this Friday at the UW-Parkside Ranger Invitational starting at 5:30pm.
