Chicago, IL -- The Beloit College Track & Field team opened the 2017 Outdoor season on Saturday at the University of Chicago Ted Hayden Invite, with the Men's team finishing sixth and the Women 7th.
Jose Gutierrez was the Buccaneers' top performer with a winning effort in the 400m Hurdles. Jack Klobucar finished second in the 800m while Aleeshah Heinzen was third in the Triple Jump and Liz Capuder tied for third in the Pole Vault.
Also scoring points for the Bucs were Heinzen, fourth in the Long Jump and tied for fifth in the 100m; Dakotah Revai, fourth in the Hammer; Ellie Waddle, fifth in the 1500m; Melissa Pelkey, fifth in the 400m; Britney Johnson and Miranda Simes, tied for sixth in the Pole Vault; Matt Miller, sixth in the 400m Hurdles and seventh in the 110m Hurdles; and Josie Zabran, eighth in the Shot Put.
The Men's 4x400m Relay of Jason Dormon, Gutierrez, Klobucar and Broakeen Sheffield was fourth; the Women's 4x400m Relay of Simes, Amelia Nuzzo, Jourdan Plautz and Frances Knaggs was fifth; and both the Women's (Sophia Miliotis, Plautz, Heinzen, Moi Yamazaki) and Men's (Dormon, Gutierrez, Sheffield, Jake Westrich) 4x100m Relays were sixth.
Beloit heads to Galesburg, Illinois, next Saturday for the Knox College Invite. Action begins at 10 a.m.
