Galesburg, IL -- The Beloit College Track & Field team opened their 2017 Indoor season at the Knox College Fire Starter Invite, with the Women finishing second and the Men third.
Beloit earned eight first-place finishes in the meet, led by Aleeshah Heinzen winning both the Long and Triple Jump events. Also earning top finishes were Melissa Pelkey in the 600m; Ellie Waddle in the Mile; Linnae Capuder in the Pole Vault; Dan Arkes in the Mile; Alberto Torres in the 3000m; and Jose Gutierrez in the 60m Hurdles.
Also scoring points for the Bucs were Heinzen, second in the 60m; Jack Klobucar, third in the 600m; Arkes, third in the 3000m; Dewight Walker, third in the Triple Jump; Gutierrez, fourth in the 200m; Charles Sandberg, fourth in the Mile; Forrest Lloyd, fourth in the 3000m; Moi Yamazaki, fifth in the 60m and Long Jump; Heinzen, fifth in the 200m; Joanna Furlan, fifth in the 3000m; Jaime Lepito, sixth in the 60m; and Sabrina Tumicelli, sixth in the Long Jump.
The Women's 4x200m Relay of Sophia Miliotis, Heinzen, Pelkey and Yamazaki was second; the Women's 4x400m Relay of Miliotis, Pelkey, Waddle and Miranda Simes was third; and the Men's 4x400m Relay of Gutierrez, Klobucar, Jake Westrich and Walker was third.
The Buccaneers continue the early portion of the season next Saturday at the UW-Parkside Ranger Home Opener in Kenosha. Action begins at 11:00 a.m.
