Buccaneers Capture Seven Firsts at Beloit Relays

Darth Winkler Web, 4-25Beloit, WI -- The weather certainly wasn't ideal but the Beloit College Track & Field team made the best of it, grabbing seven first-place finishes at the Beloit Relays, the Bucs' lone home meet of the season, on Friday and Saturday at Karris Track & Field at Strong Stadium.

The Women's team finished fifth while the Men were fourth.  Augustana College won the Women's meet and St. Ambrose University the Men's.

Karen Jones' win in the 10000m on Friday night shined brightest as she not only broke the Beloit Relays record in the event but the Beloit record as well, running the race in 38:47.32 to top Amanda Hammermeister's 2008 mark by two seconds.

Also earning wins for the Women were Ellie Waddle in the 800m; Sara DeLong in the 3000m Steeplechase; and Rachel Monroe in the Triple Jump.

Scoring points on the Women's side were Emma Koenig, second in the 10000m and fourth in the 1500m; Nadia Hecker O'Brien, third in the 400m; Angie Earley, fifth in the 100m; DeLong, fifth in the 1500m; Maggie Cress, fifth in the 10000m and eighth in the 1500m; Jones, sixth in the 1500m; Jada Viner, seventh in the 400m Hurdles; Jourdan Plautz, eighth in the 200m; Caitlin Paterson, eighth in the 800m; and Mingyi Zhang, eighth in the 5000m.

The Women's relays scored third-place finishes in all four races.  The 4x100m was Earley, Plautz, Monroe and Hecker-O'Brien; the 4x200m was Monroe, Hecker-O'Brien, Plautz and Earley; the 4x400m was Waddle, Deja Parker, Hecker-O'Brien and DeLong; and the 4x800m was Waddle, Monroe, Paterson and Sara Brown.

Turning in first-place finishes for the Men were George Gray in the 800m; Darth Winkler in the Discus; and the 4x200m Relay of Matt Kreiser, Dewight Walker, Jordan Garcia and Gray.

Also earning points for the Men's team were Kreiser, second in the 400m Hurdles and third in the 110m Hurdles; Dakotah Revai, second in the Hammer, fourth in the Javelin and fifth in the Shot Put; Alberto Torres, third in the 10000m; Josh Smith, fourth in the 5000m; Crit Stanley, tied for fourth in the Pole Vault; and Walker, fifth in the Triple Jump.

The 4x100m Relay of Kreiser, Walker, Garcia and Sean Beckford was second, as was the 4x400m Relay of Kreiser, Beckford, Walker and Gray.

The Buccaneers head to the Carroll University Pioneer Invite next Saturday for their final competition before the Midwest Conference Outdoor Championships and Ripon College on May 8-9.
