Galesburg, IL -- The Beloit College Track & Field team transitioned into their 2015 Outdoor season on Saturday, competing at the Knox College Outdoor Open.
The Women's team finished sixth out of 13 teams while the Men were ninth of 13.
Emma Koenig carried the headlines as she shattered the Beloit 5000m record of Jen Kennington (1999) with an 18:13.72, finishing second in the race. The previous record was 18:27.72.
Ellie Waddle also got her outdoor campaign off to a good start with a victory in the 800m.
Other top finishes for the Buccaneer Women were turned in by Rachel Monroe, second in the Triple Jump; Jada Viner, fourth in the 400m Hurdles; Cherrelle Phon, tied for fourth in the Pole Vault; Karly Clippinger, fifth in the 400m Hurdles; Emily Sneed, sixth in the 1500m; Sara DeLong, sixth in the 5000m; Aurelia Hoft-March, sixth in the Pole Vault; Nadia Hecker-O'Brien, seventh in the 400m; and Mingyi Zhang, seventh in the 1500m.
George Gray and Matt Kreiser led the Men with fourth-place finishes, Gray in the 800m and Kreiser in the 400m Hurdles. Other top finishers were Geoff Stevens, fifth in the Long Jump; Darth Winkler, fifth in the Discus; and Crit Stanley, seventh in the Pole Vault.
The Buccaneers continue the early part of their season next Saturday at the University of Chicago Ted Haydon Invite. Action begins at 11:00 a.m.
