Bucs Compete in 2018 Gene Davis Invite

The Beloit College men's and women's swimming and diving program competed in the 2018 Gene Davis Invite hosted by Lawrence University Saturday afternoon. The Buccaneer men finished sixth of seven teams while the women finished seventh.

Joe Stephenson, Meshach Roberts, Tenajh Gaitor, Aaron Jolly and Wil Kangas-Olson tallied top five finishes to lead the Bucs Saturday as the top 16 swimmers earned points to the team total in each event. 

Stephenson registered a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle with a season best time of 22.83. Teammates John Rose III and Karl Weiler finished 14th and 16th in the event to add points to the team total.

Roberts and Gaitor each recorded two top five finishes. Roberts came into the wall fourth touching in 58.52 in the 100 backstroke and tallied a fifth-place finish in the 200 distance of the stroke with a season-best time of 2:09.82. Gaitor was fifth in both the 100 butterfly (58.04) and 200 breaststroke (2:28.88) and added a sixth-place finish with a time of 1:58.61 in the 200 freestyle. 

Jolly added fourth-place points to the Bucs' total stopping the clock with a season-best 2:16.68 in the 200 fly. He was also seventh in the 100 fly and 13th in the 200 individual medley.

In the first time competing in the pool version of the marathon, the 1,650 freestyle, Roberts was sixth touching in 18:20.29 and Brandon Washburn finished 12th with a time of 22:30.81. 

Off the diving board, Kangas-Olson recorded the fourth-most points off the one-meter board, 275.85, in the invite.

Weiler, Carson McDonald, Jolly and Rose III combined to finish seventh in the lone relay of the day, the 200 medley relay, with a time of 1:56.67.

Additional notable finishes in the men's competition include: 100 freestyle-Stephenson (6th, 51.30), Rose III (15, 54.74), David Morris (15, 55.94); 200 breaststroke-Weiler (10, 2:42.55), Alan Brint (13, 3:21.88); 100 butterfly-Morris (11, 1:01.37); 200 butterfly-Washburn (9, 3:06.41).

Eliana Ritt led the Buccaneer women with a fourth-place finish in the 400 individual medley, the top finish for Beloit. Ritt registered a time of 5:09.21 in the event. The first-year also recorded a fifth-place finish with a season best time of 2:23.39 in the 200 backstroke. Teammate Alex Kohn finished ninth with a time of 2:35.93 in the event. 

Ritt also tallied a team season best in the 50 freestyle stopping the clock in 26.71 for seventh. 

Kohn added points to the team total for a tenth place finish in the 100 backstroke touching the wall in 1:10.78. Natalie Gallagher came into the wall 13th with a time of 1:22.41 in the 100 backstroke. 

In the 200 medley relay, the Bucs' foursome of Kohn, Kaylie Williams, Gallagher and Makenna Downing combined for a time of 2:17.40 for seventh place. 

Men's Team Scores: Lake Forest 652, St. Norbert 405, Ripon 395, Lawrence 344, UW-Oshkosh 338, Beloit 287, Carroll 177.

Women's Team Scores: Lawrence 591, Carroll 553, UW-Oshkosh 479, Lake Forest 434, St. NOrbert 257, Ripon 254, Beloit 147.

The Buccaneers will have off until December 1 when they head back north for a dual at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin.
