Grinnell, IA -- The Beloit College Swimming & Diving team had a record breaking performance on Day 1 of the Midwest Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, which are happening at Grinnell College this weekend.
After the first day the Buccaneer Men are seventh and the Women are eighth. The host school leads both ends.
The 400 Medley Relay of Meshach Roberts, Johnny Li, Tommy Silk and Joe Stephenson swam a 3:44.05 Friday morning, finishing seventh but breaking the Beloit record of 3:47.96 set in 2008 by Duvall, C. Seidel, Maiken and Hyland.
Also a highlight was Stephenson's tie for fourth in the 50 Free in the Friday-night Finals.
Others earning points for the Buccaneers were Katrina Dwyer, 12th in the 200 IM; Katie Kennedy, 15th in the 50 Free; and Aaron Jolly, 15th in the 200 IM.
The Women's 400 Medley Relay of Alex Kohn, Hannah Devereux, Kennedy and Dwyer was seventh while the Women's 200 Free Relay of Dwyer, Emma Frothingham, Amalia Dolan and Devereux was eighth. The Men's 200 Free Relay of Silk, Roberts, Li and Stephenson also finished seventh.
Day 2 of the Championships begins with prelims at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Finals are scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
