Beloit Softball Splits in Galesburg

The Beloit College softball team split a pair of games at Knox College Saturday afternoon.

The Buccaneers took a 5-0 lead after 3.5 but a nine-run fourth for the Prairie Fire led to the Knox win. The Bucs outhit Knox in the contest but committed two errors.

Bree Swanson led off the game with a single and showcased her speed with two stolen bases. Swanson scored on an RBI groundout from Ashley Lambert for the quick 1-0 lead.

The Bucs doubled up with another run in the top of the third and once again it was Swanson tallying the score. A little déjà vu, Swanson reached, stole second and then third. Another sacrifice fly, this time from Kat Grzeszkiewicz, plated Swanson.

Following the pattern, Alyssa Morris singled, stole two basses and scored on a single from Alyssa Boltik. Boltik then stole second and scored when Emily Stapay tagged a double. Emily Malarski followed with a a RBI single and Stapay scored in the next at bat to give the Bucs a 5-0 lead.

The Prairie Fire responded with nine in their half of the inning on six hits with the help of an error to take a 9-5 lead.

Beloit came back with two runs in the top of the sixth and another in the top of the seventh but the Bucs were unable to complete the comeback.

Boltik took the mound in the nightcap throwing a complete game four-hitter while the offense exploded for 13 hits and six runs.

The Bucs scored in four of the seven innings starting the game off with one run in the top of the first.

Swanson continued her fantastic offensive performance with a single and took second by thievery, her fifth stolen base on the day. Lambert notched a single for the RBI and the early Beloit lead, 1-0.

Lambert crossed the plate in the top of the third singling with one out and scoring on a two-out two-bagger by Dani Strejc.

In the top of the fifth, Grzeszkiewicz led off with a double, advanced to third on a groundout and scored in similar fashion.

The Prairie Fire plated a single run in the bottom of the sixth but Beloit responded with three in the top of the seventh on three hits. Lambert doubled in the inning and Strejc added a sacrifice fly in the inning.

Lambert led the Bucs offensively going 3-for-4 from the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Boltik picked up the win striking out six in the complete game win.

Up Next: Beloit will head to Jacksonville, Illinois for a twinbill against Illinois College Sunday.
