October 13, 2016

The Beloit College Softball team, under head coach Kim Zarling, has been recognized with the Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete Team Award for the 2016 season.  In addition, seven individual players were recognized.  The honors were announced Thursday.

Athletes who achieve a 3.5 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale are recognized as Easton/NFCA Scholar Athletes.  To earn an NFCA Team Scholar-Athlete Award, institutions in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA Division I and II, must count the grade point averages of all student-athletes who competed during the past season.

The Bucs had a 3.40 GPA for the 2016 season, which ranked 42nd in NCAA Division III.  Beloit and Grinnell College were the only teams from the Midwest Conference honored, with Grinnell College carrying a 3.34 GPA.

April Apfelbaum, Ashley Lambert, Bethany Stavrakas, Hayley Barnett, Tala Cornell, Taurie Burns and Emalie Thern were the individual players recognized.

The Buccaneers finished the 2016 season with a 10-26 overall record, 6-14 in the MWC.
