Grinnell, IA -- The Beloit College Softball team has two repeat representatives on the 2016 All-Midwest Conference Softball squad, released at the end of the MWC Tournament by the Conference office this evening.
Senior outfielder Tala Cornell (Beloit, Wis./Memorial) earned First Team honors for the second straight season while senior outfielder Bethany Stavrakas (Oglesby, Ill./St. Bede), a First-Teamer last season, was named to the Second Team.
Cornell finished her career as one of the top players in Beloit Softball history, virtually rewriting the Buccaneer Softball record book. This season she hit .424 with 53 hits, 32 runs scored, eight doubles, four triples and six home runs, driving in 24 runs and going 11-11 on stolen bases. She had a .463 on-base percentage and a .696 slugging percentage. She finished her career as the all-time leader in home runs (23), hits (158), runs scored (107), triples (tied with 12), at-bats (418) and total bases (284), is second in batting average (.378) and third in RBIs (73). For single-season she holds the top spot for at-bats, hits, batting average, doubles, triples and total bases. Not only does she conclude her career as two-time First Team All-MWC she was also All-Region last season, a three-time Academic All-Conference, and a two-time team captain.
Stavrakas hit .349 with 30 hits and 12 runs scored, was 7-10 on stolen bases and had a .364 on-base percentage. She is one of only 13 players in the program’s history to record 100-plus career hits, ranking sixth all-time with 110. She also recorded the third-most hits in a season in 2015 (48) and the fourth-highest batting average ever (.471).
The Bucs finished the season 10-26, 6-14 in the MWC.
