Lake Forest, IL – The Beloit College softball team was on the losing end in a pair of MWC games against Lake Forest College on Tuesday evening, dropping the opener 9-0 and the nightcap 13-1.
Tala Cornell led off game one with a single down the left field line, but the Foresters quickly got out of the inning with a strike out and a double play. Lake Forest then put up five runs in the bottom of the first, stringing together four hits off Beloit starter Mikayla Martin. The Foresters did not allow another hit to the Bucs until the top of the fifth, when Taurie Burns singled with two outs.
Pitching duties were split between Martin and Sonya Myscofski, who came in to relieve in the bottom of the third. The pair gave up ten hits and nine runs, only four of which were earned.
In game two, the Bucs ended their scoring drought with a run in the top of the fifth inning. Taurie Burns drew a two out walk and took second on a wild pitch. After being pushed to third on a ground out to the pitcher, she scored on April Apfelbaum’s single to center field.
The Bucs were limited to just two hits in game two, while giving up 18 to the Foresters. Myscofski began the game on the mound, pitching two complete innings and giving up five runs before reliever Alyssa Boltik took over for the remainder of the contest.
Beloit College softball is back in action on Thursday, with a rescheduled double header against UW-Platteville. The Bucs will be celebrating Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day, as well as sporting pink in support of their Play for the Cure campaign. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm at the Strong Stadium softball field.
