Buccaneer Baseball, Softball Open 2016 with Annual Trip to Florida

Beloit, WI – The Beloit College Baseball and Softball teams are again heading to Florida for the opening of their 2016 seasons beginning the weekend of March 5-6.

Dave DeGeorge begins his 26th season as the head coach of Buccaneer Baseball with eight games at the RussMatt Central Florida Invite in and around Winter Haven. 

The Bucs open their week against St. Vincent College of Pennsylvania on Saturday, March 5, in Winter Haven, at 10:30 a.m. central time.  They’ll also take on SUNY Polytechnic Institute out of New York, Wittenberg University of Ohio, Coe College from Iowa, Gordon College from Massachusetts and Iowa Wesleyan University.  In addition the team will also play six junior varsity contests.  After the squad gets back home they’re scheduled to play a doubleheader against Milwaukee School of Engineering at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium on Saturday, March 19, beginning at 12:00 noon.

The Bucs are coming off back-to-back 6-2 Florida Trips.  They finished the 2015 season 18-15 overall, 6-9 in the Midwest Conference.

Kim Zarling begins her ninth season with the Buccaneer Softball team, and her 21st season as a collegiate head coach, with 10 games at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee.  Beloit opens on Sunday, March 6, with games against Baldwin-Wallace University of Ohio at 10:15 a.m. central time and Bridgewater College out of Virginia at 2:45 p.m. CT.  With two games on each of their five playing dates, they’re also scheduled to play Coe College, Marietta College of Ohio, Mitchell College of Connecticut, Westminster College Pennsylvania, Defiance College Ohio, Montclair State University out of New Jersey and Mount St. Joseph College of Ohio.  Once they get back up north they travel to Alverno College (March 22), Elmhurst College (March 30), Illinois College (April 2) and Monmouth College (April 3) before opening their home season at the Strong Complex Softball Field against Carroll University on Wednesday, April 6, at 3:00 p.m.

The Buccaneers are looking for a good start to the season in Florida after a 1-9 mark against highly-regarded competition last season.  They finished the 2015 season 15-21 overall, 7-7 in the MWC.
