The Beloit College men’s soccer team fell to Rockford University 2-1 in a match under the lights, and in the rain, at MercyHealth Sportscore Two in Loves Park, Illinois Wednesday.
The Regents threatened with 11 shots in the first half but the Beloit defense was up to the challenge thwarting each opportunity. Both defenses held steady until late in the game when the offenses finally broke through.
The stalemate was broken 17 minutes into the second half as Alonzo Carrillo received a pass from center and found the left corner of the net.
Beloit’s Deji Agunbiade tallied the equalizer just over five minutes later on a free kick, his first goal of the season. The Bucs had another opportunity off of a corner kick a minute later but the shot went high.
Rockford struck again in the 87th minute when Carlos Montes found the top right corner for the 2-1 Regent lead. Beloit had one last chance to even the score with Agunbiade taking a corner kick in the 89th minute but the Bucs were unable to get a shot off.
Beloit returns to their home field hosting Illinois Institute of Technology Friday, September 7 at 4:30 p.m.
