Bucs Ride Big First Half to Win

September 9, 2016

Loves Park, IL -- The Beloit College Men's Soccer team had a three-goal first half and then held off any comeback attempt in the second for a 3-1 win over Rockford University at SportsCore 2 on Friday.

Jose Gutierrez got the scoring underway just 1:30 into the game with a header off a corner kick by Giovanni Guzman.  Isaiah Turner-Wyatt made it 2-0 at 15:07 with a score from 10 yards out.

After the Regents cut the deficit in half at 28:37, Turner-Wyatt closed out the scoring at 32:55 with a scoring header from just in front of the goal.

The defense took over in the second half, with RU out-shooting the Bucs 11-5 but Asa Hatten, in relief of Alex Lyon, making five saves to preserve the win.  Lyon made two saves in the opening half.

Rockford had 15 shots to Beloit's 14 while the Buccaneers had five corner kicks to the Regents' three.

Beloit is back at the Strong Complex Soccer Field Sunday when they host Iowa Wesleyan University at 12 noon.
