Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Soccer team were storming ahead in a late comeback against Concordia University Wisconsin Wednesday at the Strong Complex Soccer Field. But, simply, they just ran out of time as CUW held on for the 4-3 victory.
The Falcons broke a scoreless tie at 22:15 and added some insurance at 40:41 before Daniel Stockton blasted one from around 40 yards that found the back of the net 12 seconds before halftime to make it a 2-1 game at the half.
Concordia increased their lead to 3-1 10 minutes into the second half and made it 4-1 on a penalty kick at the 63:36 mark. But the Bucs weren't done.
Joe Froelich scored at the 73:28 mark to make it a two-goal game and then Stockton struck for the second time in the game to make it a one-goal contest. But Stockton's goal came with just 23 seconds remaining and Beloit couldn't get another shot off to try to force extra time.
The Falcons out-shot the Buccaneers 25-8 and had 13 corner kicks to Beloit's four. Jere Bauer had six saves in 62 minutes while Asa Hatten made two saves the remainder of the game.
The match was a tune-up for the beginning of Midwest Conference play this weekend. Beloit plays at St. Norbert College on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. before traveling to Ripon College on Sunday for a 2:30 p.m. match.
