Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Soccer team had back-to-back overtime games on Friday and Saturday as they opened their 2015 home season, taking a loss Friday and settling for a tie on Saturday.
In Saturday's match vs. Blackburn College, the Bucs were within three minutes of the regulation win before the Beavers tallied at the 87:06 mark to make it 2-2. Both teams failed to score through two 10-minute overtimes for the tie.
Beloit took a 1-0 lead just six minutes into the match when Jose Gutierrez found Joe Froelich for a score. Blackburn tied it up 16 minutes later off a corner kick but Geoff Stevens, who had just subbed into the game, nudged in a rebound off Isaiah Turner-Wyatt's shot to put the Buccaneers back on top at the 27:04 mark. That lead held up until Blackburn found the back of the net with under three minutes left in regulation.
Asa Hatten had five saves for Beloit in 61 minutes of net-minding while EJ Lowney made one save in 48-plus minutes. The Beavers held a slight 16-15 edge in shots while Beloit had nine corners to Blackburn's seven.
Back on Friday, Maranatha Baptist Bible College scored the first goal of the game just after halftime on a rebound before Turner-Wyatt evened it up, and forced extra time, at 86:09 off a scramble in front of the net. But MBBC scored just over seven minutes into overtime on a penalty kick for the 2-1 win.
Jere Bauer made three saves in 60 minutes of play and Alex Lyon also had three saves in 36 minutes. Maranatha held the shot advantage 14-11 while Beloit had eight corners to the Sabercats' five.
