MLC Semifinals Mark End to Successful 2017 Season for Buccaneers

Aurora, IL -- The Beloit College Men's Lacrosse team saw their successful 2017 season come to an end on Wednesday in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference Tournament Semifinals in a 12-5 loss at Aurora University.

Beloit's final 10-6 record marks the most wins in a season in program history, the first time the team has reached double figures in victories.

In the 2-3 seed match-up, the second-seeded and four-time defending Tournament Champion Spartans jumped out to a big advantage, scoring the first eight goals of the game to lead by that score with 5:42 left in the third quarter.  Nick Meisberger got Beloit on the board with 10 seconds left in the period to make it 8-1 entering the final 15 minutes.

Mike Spencer broke up a three-goal AU run late in the fourth before Rikley Buckingham and Mark Gannon (Luke Thomson) scored back-to-back.  After Aurora's final score with 2:29 left Matt Kelly (Buckingham) closed things out at the 1:40 mark.

John Murphy made 11 saves in goal and had five ground balls.  Jake Wallace also picked up five ground balls, becoming the Bucs' career leader with 218, while Thomson had four.  Wallace added six caused turnovers, tying for the second-most in a game in program history, while extending his own Beloit career record with 107.

Seniors Luke Bankord, Bellande Bertrand, Brendan FitzGerald, Buckingham, John Bannon, Zach Carner, Kelly, Tommy Otis, and Nikolai de Saint Andrieu all played their final game for the Bucs.
