Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Lacrosse team made sure their seniors enjoyed their day Saturday with a 19-3 Midwest Lacrosse Conference win over Monmouth College at Strong Stadium, the squad's fourth straight win.
Seniors Luke Bankord, Bellande Bertrand, Brendan FitzGerald, Rikley Buckingham, John Bannon, Zach Carner, Matt Kelly, Tommy Otis, and Nikolai de Saint Andrieu were recognized in pre-game introductions.
The Bucs got off to a very strong start with five unanswered first period goals. Carner (de saint Andrieu), Kelly (Mark Gannon), Carner (Gannon), Kelly (Carner), and Chris Anderson put Beloit up 5-0. The Fighting Scots got on the board to open the second quarter before the Buccaneers rattled off seven goals to close out the first half scoring with a 12-1 lead at the break. Scoring for Beloit in the period were Gannon, Michael Boyland (Gannon), Kelly (Boyland), Carner, Gannon, Boyland (Gannon), and Andreas Piepenberg (Mike Spencer).
Monmouth opened the second half with their second goal before Beloit again filled the rest of the third period with goals, hitting the back of the net six times with goals by Buckingham (Gannon), Buckingham (Piepenberg), Bankord, Casey Bulmer, Kevin Joswiak (Kelly), and Piepenberg to make it 18-2. The teams closed out the scoring with a goal each in the fourth quarter, the Bucs' coming from Kelly (Bulmer).
Otis made four saves in goal for his fifth career win. Anderson led the way with six ground balls while Jake Wallace and Chris Vice had five each. Vice was also 18-22 on faceoffs while Wallace had five caused turnovers.
Beloit is now off until next Sunday when they travel to Concordia University Chicago for a 1:00 p.m. MLC game.
