April 12, 2017

Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Lacrosse team maintained their spot at the top of the Midwest Lacrosse Conference with a come-from-behind 14-12 win over Cornell College at Strong Stadium Wednesday night.

In a back and forth game that wasn't decided until the final four-plus minutes, the Bucs got on the board first when Luke Bankord and Matt Kelly (Mark Gannon) scored three minutes apart in the first period.  But Cornell scored three straight to grab the lead over a two-plus minute span.  Rikley Buckingham tied it up at 3-all with 2:15 left in the quarter before the Rams scored with 26 seconds left to lead 4-3 after one.  Bankord (Gannon, Man Down), Mike Spender (Michael Boyland, Man Up) and Bankord (Gannon) regained the lead into the second period before CC pulled back within 6-5 with 1:52 left in the half.  Nick Meisberger (Spencer) regained the two-goal lead 56 seconds before the break, making it 7-5 at the half.

The Rams tied it at 8-8 with three of the first four goals in the third quarter, with Boyland's goal breaking up the run.  Buckingham and Spencer (Gannon) put the Bucs up 10-8 before Cornell pulled back within 10-9 at 3:31 of the period.  Buckingham (Gannon) made it a two-goal lead just over a minute into the fourth quarter before Cornell scored three straight goals to jump in front 12-11 with 7:58 left.  But Buckingham (Zach Carner/Boyland) scored at 4:20 and 3:34 to put Beloit up to stay and Kelly added an insurance tally at 1:47 to close the scoring and secure the win.

John Murphy made three saves in goal for the Bucs.  Jake Wallace had seven ground balls and Carner five to lead the team.  Tobin Greenwald had seven caused turnovers, the second-most in the program's history, and Chris Vice won 10 faceoffs.

Beloit hosts Monmouth College Saturday afternoon for Senior Day, with the team's nine seniors being recognized prior to the game.  Faceoff is at 1:00 p.m.
