St. Louis, MO -- The Beloit College Men's Lacrosse team made the long trip South worthwhile with a dominating Midwest Lacrosse Conference win at Fontbonne University Saturday afternoon.
The Buccaneers made a big statement in the opening quarter with eight goals while shutting down the Griffins. Michael Boyland, Rikley Buckingham, Nick Meisberger, Zach Carner, Boyland (Mark Gannon), Matt Kelly (Gannon), Gannon (Meisberger) and Andreas Piepenberg (Aric Rasmussen) were collectively responsible for the first period burst. Kevin Joswiak scored back-to-back to open the second quarter to make the run 10 straight. After Fontbonne scored their first goal Ezra Rogers and Dylan Levine closed out the half to make it 12-1 at the break.
Casey Bulmer, Rogers, Nikolai de St. Andrieu, and Piepenberg scored four straight in the third period, with the Griffins scoring the final goal of the quarter, to make it 16-2 heading to the fourth. Boyland (Levine), Carner and Levine closed out the scoring in the fourth period for the final score.
John Murphy made two saves in the opening 30 minutes before Charles Valuck had a pair of saves in the second half. Carner had a team-high eight ground balls and was 8-10 on faceoffs while Gabe Pearlman had seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. Chris Vice was 9-9 on faceoffs, with he and Carner leading the team to a 23-25 advantage on faceoffs.
Beloit returns home Wednesday night when they host Cornell College in a 7:00 p.m. MLC game at Strong Stadium.
