February 27, 2016

Kenosha, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Lacrosse team trailed by two goals at the half but were shut down in the second half on the way to a 10-3 loss at Carthage College in the season opener Saturday.

The Buccaneers struck first at 8:24 of the opening period when Michael Boyland scored his first collegiate goal, assisted by Liam O'Connor, for a 1-0 lead.  But the Red Men answered with three unanswered goals to close the period and lead 3-1 after one.

Beloit got back even in the first five minutes of the second period on goals by Mike Spencer and Nick Meisberger, both unassisted, at 13:42 and 10:18, respectively.  But, again, Carthage scored twice in the final 4:34 of the period to take a 5-3 lead into halftime.

The second half was all CC, with two scores in the third period and three more in the fourth,  while holding the Buccaneers scoreless.  The Bucs had four shots on goal in the half, two in each period, that were stopped.

John Murphy tied Trevor Kenahan's record with 24 saves in goal for Beloit while Casey Bulmer had five face-off wins.  Murphy had five ground balls and Jake Wallace added four.  Luke Thomson and Christopher Krueger had two caused turnovers apiece.

The Buccaneers have a week to regroup before hosting the University of Dubuque in the home opener next Saturday at Strong Stadium.  Face-off is at 4:00 p.m.
