Buccaneer Men’s Lacrosse Begins 2016 Season at Carthage Saturday

Beloit, WI – The Beloit College Men’s Lacrosse team is set to open its 2016 season on Saturday at Carthage College, with Rashad Devoe making his collegiate head coaching debut.

Under Devoe, the Buccaneers welcome back six of the teams’ seven top scorers from last season in seniors Aidan Whinnery (38 goals, 14 assists, 52 points) and Liam O’Connor (17-21-38), juniors Matt Kelly (18-4-22) and Zach Carner (12-5-17) and sophomores Mike Spencer (8-5-13) and Nick Meisberger (5-5-10).

On the defensive side goalkeepers sophomore John Murphy (10.45 goals-against-average, 123 saves) and senior Trevor Kenahan (12.68, 37) are back, as well as sophomore defender Jake Wallace (0-3-3).

Whinnery, Wallace and Murphy were First Team All-Midwest Lacrosse Conference selections in 2015 while O’Connor was a Second Team pick.

After the opener at Carthage the Bucs, who finished 5-8-0 overall, 3-3-0 in the MLC and earned a spot in the MLC Tournament in their first season in the league, host the University of Dubuque at Strong Stadium on Saturday, March 5, at 4:00 p.m. before heading out on their Spring Trip, which will see them play at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. and at Goucher College in Baltimore.
